There are many configurations that are available.
Round inflations have been the mainstay over the past 100 years and there have been many reasons for this, several are ease of manufacturing, and the fact that teats are round and will glove fit the mammal . The mechanical action of opening and closing until recently has best design for speed of milking. Oval or pre collapsed inflations have all but ceased to exist perhaps because of the slowness related to milking speed compared to round parts. Square inflations came on the market about 25 years ago and with new and improved designs have made great inroads because of the massage action of the 4 sided collapse of the part although there may be a loss of milking speed compared to the typical round part. Triangular inflations have been in the market place for about 10 years touted as being good for teat and udder health however their only draw back appears to be the inherent slow milking due to the design of flat walls that will not spring back like a round part when collapsed. Fluted inflations are a recent development and collapse similar to a round inflation with the expectation that they will self adjust to a wide consortium of teat sizes. The HYBRID® inflation takes the round inflation which fits the mammals teats properly and through unique design causes the inflation to collapse in the shape of a triangle (wall over™). This feature allows equivalent or greater milking speed than that of a round inflation to be incorporated with the superior massage action of a multi sided inflation.
